Ephesians 4:1-6

4 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Now that Paul has revealed God’s vision for a renewed world, he urges believers to live in a manner worthy of their calling—marked by humility, patience, and love, walking in the footsteps of Christ. These are the ways of our Lord. Paul doesn’t instruct them to create unity; that has already been accomplished through the saving work of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Instead, he exhorts them to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3). This task—though humble—is deeply significant, for this unity is rooted in the oneness of God Himself and His redemptive work in the world.

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
