We Do Not Wrestle Against Flesh and Blood

Lesson 7: Satan Is Real — And He’s Not Wearing Red Tights
Not a Metaphor. Not a Symbol. Not a Joke.
Satan isn’t a cartoon.
He’s not folklore.
He’s not just “the bad vibes in the world.”
He’s real.
He’s active.
He hates you.
“Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion,
seeking someone to devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8
Many Christians Don’t Believe It
Recent studies show nearly 40% of Christians think Satan is just a symbol of evil.
Others don’t know what to believe.
So they ignore him.
That’s exactly what he wants.
The Bible Doesn’t Flinch
He tempted Jesus in the wilderness.
He entered Judas at the Last Supper.
He blinds unbelievers.
He accuses the saints.
He deceives the nations.
“The whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” — 1 John 5:19
If Satan Isn’t Real…
Then Jesus fought a phantom.
The cross defeated nothing.
Spiritual warfare is imaginary.
And the church is unarmed.
Satan Has a Goal: Destruction
He doesn’t just want to bother you.
He wants to devour you.
Your marriage.
Your church.
Your faith.
Your witness.
He’s the Father of Lies
“There is no truth in him… he is a liar and the father of lies.” — John 8:44
He twists Scripture.
He masquerades as light.
He speaks in half-truths.
Just like in the garden.
“Did God really say…?”
His Methods Haven’t Changed
Deceive the mind.
Distract the heart.
Destroy the soul.
He’s not creative.
Just effective.
The Church’s Mistake? Forgetting He’s There
We focus on programs.
He focuses on warfare.
We preach self-help.
He preaches lies.
We minimize sin.
He maximizes it.
You’re in a War Whether You Admit It or Not
“We do not wrestle against flesh and blood…” — Ephesians 6:12
This isn’t a game.
It’s a battlefield.
He Hates the Gospel
Because the Gospel broke him.
“The reason the Son of God appeared
was to destroy the works of the devil.” — 1 John 3:8
And Jesus did.
The Cross Was Satan’s Defeat
At Calvary,
Satan lost his grip.
Christ crushed the serpent’s head. (Gen 3:15)
Satan is on a leash — but still dangerous.
Resist. Stand. Fight.
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” — James 4:7
Not in your strength.
In Christ’s.
Clothed in armor.
Filled with truth.
Anchored in the Word.
He’s Real — But He’s Defeated
His end is written.
“The devil… was thrown into the lake of fire.” — Revelation 20:10
He’s doomed.
You’re secure.
If you’re in Christ,
you don’t fight for victory —
you fight from victory.
The Church Must Wake Up
Stop laughing at evil.
Stop ignoring the battle.
Stop explaining away the enemy.
Stand. Fight. Watch. Pray.
Summary
Satan is real.
He’s at war with the church.
He deceives, divides, and destroys.
But Jesus has crushed him.
The battle is fierce — but the victory is sure.
