Victory Over Death Through Christ

Lesson 8: Victory — Killing Sin Before It Kills You

Sin Ends in Death — But It Doesn’t Have To

James showed the cycle:
Temptation → Desire → Conception → Birth → Growth → Death.

But Christ breaks the cycle.

There’s another way.
There’s victory.

You Don’t Have to Lose

Temptation isn’t invincible.
Desire isn’t the boss.
Sin doesn’t have to win.

God Doesn’t Just Forgive Sin

He gives you power to fight it.

“Sin will have no dominion over you…” — Romans 6:14

It Starts With a War Mindset

You don’t counsel sin.
You don’t contain it.
You kill it.

“Put to death what is earthly in you…” — Colossians 3:5

God Gives You Weapons

“The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh…” — 2 Corinthians 10:4

What are they?

  • The Word of God – Your sword. (Eph. 6:17)

  • Prayer – Your battle line. (James 5:16)

  • The Holy Spirit – Your power. (Gal. 5:16)

  • The Church – Your support. (Heb. 10:25)

  • Accountability – Your defense. (Prov. 27:17)

The Way of Escape Is Real

“God is faithful… with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape.” — 1 Corinthians 10:13

You are never stuck.
There is always a door.
Always a window.
Always a “No.”

You’re Not Powerless — Unless You Choose to Be

Sin feels strong.
But it’s not stronger than Christ in you.

“Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” — 1 John 4:4

So What Does Victory Look Like?

1. Recognize the bait early.
Shut it down before desire wakes up.

2. Expose secret sin.
Darkness dies in the light.

“Confess your sins…” — James 5:16

3. Don’t trust yourself.
Run from temptation. Don’t debate it.

4. Replace the sin.
Starve the flesh. Feed the Spirit.

“Walk by the Spirit…” — Galatians 5:16

5. Repeat daily.
Victory is a lifestyle, not a one-time win.

You Can’t Win Alone

You need the Word.
You need the Spirit.
You need the Body.

Isolation is a breeding ground for sin.

You Can’t Be Casual

Casual Christians are
crushed by serious sin.

You don’t drift toward holiness.
You fight for it.

You Can’t Make Peace With Sin

It’s either war or surrender.
Kill sin,
or it will kill you.

“Be killing sin, or it will be killing you.” — John Owen

Jesus Already Won

“He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame,
by triumphing over them in Him.” — Colossians 2:15

The power of sin is broken.
You fight a defeated enemy.

This Is Not About Perfection

It’s about direction.

You may stumble.
But you don’t surrender.

Real Christians Repent

Not once.
But over and over.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…” — 1 John 1:9

Repentance is not defeat.
It’s the path to victory.

You’re Not Too Far Gone

If you’re still breathing,
you can turn back.

The blood of Jesus
still speaks a better word. (Heb. 12:24)

You Don’t Have to Finish the Sin Cycle

Start a new one:

  • Conviction

  • Confession

  • Repentance

  • Restoration

  • Growth

  • Joy

  • Holiness

Summary

  • Sin grows, but it can be killed.

  • God gives power.

  • The Spirit leads.

  • The Word fights.

  • Grace restores.

  • Victory is possible.

  • Jesus is enough.

The Cycle Can End With Life

Don’t die in James 1:15.

Live in Romans 8:13.

“If by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body,
you will live.”

Choose life.
Fight hard.
Run free.
